We had a tremendous seminar in Nipawin on June 6th. Jim Ross of the Prairie Turfgrass Research Centre in Olds Alberta gave an interesting presentation on Snow Mold. This captivated those 30 plus turf managers in attendance.

Most of the courses in our province are in excellent condition, having come through the winter with very little injury. Some courses, however, have an abundance of water which is being pumped off the property. Hopefully everyone will have a good season with lots of activity.

The Provincial ban on pruning Elm trees is in effect between
April 1st and August 31st. Dutch elm disease was first discovered in
Saskatchewan in 1981 and continues to be found in more areas of the
province every year.

If you have an abundance of snow it may be wise to make arrangements to rent or borrow some pumps to remove excessive water. If you wait this may be difficult because I think there is going to be a run on them.

The S.T.A. Board of Directors will be meeting soon. The primary business will be to elect a President and plan an attack for the year. It is going to be an interesting year. Also, a quick note that my fax number has changed. The new one is: 306.244.0513

Another Fall Wind-up and Annual General Meeting is in the books. 37 members attended despite terrible weather conditions which made driving an adventure. Because of a bad cold which kept me in bed for five days, I was unable to attend. People tell me the day was excellent with a tremendous seminar and great food.

Saskatchewan's Turfgrass Association, founded in 1979, is a non-profit organization. The S.T.A. was organized by a group of Turfgrass Professionals which has grown to include people from Parks, Golf Courses, Sod Growers, Cities and Commercial Companies.
