Position Title : Golf Course Superintendent

Immediate Supervisor : Rosetown Golf Club Board of Directors

Overview : This position will oversee, direct, and participate with the course’s maintenance staff in using current turf maintenance practices.

Summary of Duties and Responsibilities: The Golf Course Superintendent, shall be responsible for the management of the Golf Course including, course maintenance, security, grounds staffing, and assist with tournament/program support.

  1. Monitor the golf course’s grooming and ensure employees are meeting requirements.
  2. Manage golf course staff and hold briefings when needed to ensure goals for the day are clearly known and understood.
  3. Ensure proper execution of cultivation practices schedules (fertilization, venting, topdressing, etc.)
  4. Maintain accurate records for all pesticide and fertilizer applications.
  5. Ensure all equipment is kept in proper working order.
  6. Assist with the monitoring of daily course watering, maintaining the irrigation system, and maintaining pump house.
  7. Pressurize and assist with winterizing the irrigation system and golf course.
  8. Develop and maintain a Standard Operating Procedure manual for Golf Course maintenance. 
  9. Ensure all staff are properly trained.
  10. Ensure Security processes are followed for the club’s buildings.
  11. Ensure the club’s buildings and property are maintained in a clean and attractive condition.
  12. In conjunction with the board of directors, develop a seasonal calendar of events to ensure appropriate volunteers are arranged to assist with services when needed.
  13. Promote and assist with marketing the Club throughout the year.
  14. Identify grant/funding opportunities and pursue applications.
  15. Assist with hosting and implementing new and existing club events/tournaments.
  16. Be the lead on running and maintaining a strong junior program at the course.

Required Skills:

  1. Strong leadership, communication and organizational skills.
  2. Understanding of agronomy, turf grass science, golf course design and aesthetics, and the rules of golf.
  3. Must be able to work a 5 day work schedule with flexible starting times and some potential weekend work.
  4. Ability to operate and assist in the repair of mowing and cultural equipment.
  5. Experience in the repair and maintenance of irrigation systems with tools specific to the requirements of the golf course operation.
  6. Experience in the operation of equipment with manual or automatic transmissions.
  7. Possession of a valid Saskatchewan Driver's License.
  8. As this is a smaller Club, you may be required to perform maintenance duties including heavy physical work and in extreme weather conditions.
  9. Physical Aspects of the position include but are not limited to prolonged standing and walking throughout the day, lifting & carrying up to 70 lbs, and bending and kneeling.
  10. The ability to set up and operate semi-automatic and automatic irrigation systems.
  11. Ability to work with minimal supervision and to work well with co-workers and members of the public.
  12. Familiarity with the Occupational Health & Safety Act, WHMIS, and other regulations that apply to greenkeeper and turf management work.
