  • December 6, 2014

This yearly award is presented in honour of the late Dr. Drew Smith.  Dr. Smith was engaged in teaching, extension, and a research scientist on the Botany  of Grasses, usually in relation to plant disease.  He was with the Agriculture Canada Research Station in Saskatoon.

The award recognizes the recipients’ dedication and contribution to the turfgrass industry in the Province of Saskatchewan.

The person who has been selected by his peers to receive this award for 2014 is Ron Dagert.  This award is an acknowledgement of his commitment to professionalism in his chosen vocation and as a dedicated member of the Saskatchewan Turfgrass Association.

Mr. Dagert has been involved in the turfgrass industry for a quarter of a century.  He has been a Superintendent, Manager and Industry professional.  He has helped organize and participate in countless events for the Association.  He is well respected in the turf industry, always willing to help superintendents in need.  Along with this, he carries a positive attitude, not only in discussing turf related topics, but life in general.
