Talking to fellow superintendents from around the province, most everyone is concerned about potential ice damage. Hopefully this is minimal and when spring does get here it stays warm with some moisture to speed up recovery.
Kim and I recently attended the CGSA Conference in Montreal. The conference was well attended with a great education program. At the awards luncheon it was great to hear that Bob Currie, Kelvin VanWinkoop and Lach Reeve were awarded their 30 year pins, and 2 old dinosaurs were awarded their 40 year pins, Grant Sawchyn and myself.
The Board of Directors are finalizing plans for a Summer Field Day at Lynbrook in Moose Jaw, as well as the Don Campbell Research Tournament at the Cooke Municipal in Prince Albert.
This August Riverside is hosting the Canadian Amateur Golf Championships along with the Saskatoon Golf & Country Club. The first time I hosted this tourney was 1985 following a horrible winter. Conditions that spring were brutal and on a spring tour of the course with RCGA officials I overheard an official say to another “Do you think they’ll have grass by August?”. I hope this spring is not a repeat of 1985, but we did have grass by August.
Spring is quickly approaching and I wish everyone the best in conditions this spring. Looking forward to seeing everyone soon.
