October/November 2020

The golf season was going strong until the third week of October, then winter appeared with snow in some areas and extremely cold temperatures for that time of year.  For the most part I hear that the majority of courses had or were in the process of putting their golf courses to bed for the winter.  Thankfully for courses that hadn’t finished, the weather was better for about 10 days at the end of October and the first week of November to get things done, and then Mother Nature shut most of the province down for a few days.

From most reports, there was a 20%—25% increase in golf rounds played this past season due to the weather and COVID.  With other sports, summer camps, etc cancelled, golf has been rejuvenated it seems.  It is looking more and more like next season we will not see any more changes to the restrictions as the pandemic continues.

The Fall Wind Up is fast approaching and with the increase in cases these past few weeks the Board has made the prudent decision to cancel the in-person part of the event, so it will be a Fall Wind Up on Zoom  - Education and AGM.  We felt it was the responsible decision in this climate.  Kim will provide an email with the Zoom invitation details the day before the meeting to everyone who has registered and paid in advance.  Please email Kim saskturf@sasktel.net or register online.  Refunds will be processed for those who pre-paid for in-person registration.

I hope everyone had a very successful 2020 season and have prepared their properties as best they can for next season.  The rest is up to Mother Nature (hopefully she’s in a good mood).

Take care,
- Doug
