With only 3-4 weeks left in the golf season I'm sure everyone is looking forward to the end of what is probably the busiest season ever.  Many superintendents that I have talked to said everyday was like “Groundhog Day”.  The same thing each day, booked from start to finish and no events on.

We have some sad news, one of our long time members, Brad Konescni passed away on September 15 at the age of 63.  Bran was in our industry for over 40 years, as well as serving on the STA Board in the 90’s, most recently as superintendent of the Rosthern Valley Regional Park golf course.  He will be missed and we send condolences out to Dolly and Brad’s family.  The STA Board has donated $500 to “Cans for Kids” in Brad’s memory.

Recently the STA Board had a meeting at Wakaw Lake Golf Course where Dean Hildebrandt is the superintendent.  We played 9 holes of golf after the meeting and it made me realize how many hidden gems we have in our province.  So I encourage everyone to make the effort and visit some of these courses.

We have been in the planning for the Fall Windup which will be in the 3rd week of November.  Originally we had planned to have it at the Saskatoon Golf & Country Club, but due to COVID restrictions they are not hosting any events after golf season.  The plan is to limit attendance to 30 people with a Zoom option for 2 hours of Continuing Education Credits, followed by the AGM.  As soon as we nail down a location more information will follow.

I wish everyone the best of luck in preparing and closing their courses for the winter, hopefully Mother Nature cooperates.

Take care,
- Doug
